The project was approved in December 2003 for a grant of US$936,380 to the Government of Chad and civil society beneficiaries. The main objective of the proposed project was to strengthen the participation of civil society and the private sector in the decision-making processes in support of poverty reduction and the promotion of good governance in Chad.
The main objective of PARCOSIT was to strengthen the capacity of civil society in Chad to increase their participation in the decision-making process. The three-year project had three main components: i) institutional and human capacity building in umbrella civil society organizations as well the Chamber of Commerce through training and the acquisition of computing equipment; ii) support for dialogue and the emergence of a permanent consultative/interface framework between the private sector, civil society and Government; and iii) communication and advocacy. Among the expected impact is a better equipped and trained civil society and private sector to effectively play their role, greater dialogue between the three major stakeholder groups for poverty reduction and good governance and greater awareness and participation of the population at large in debates through the wide dissemination of information throughout the country on key policy issues related to the Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper (PRSP), Good Governance Strategy Document (GGSD) and the management of the oil revenues.
