The Projet de Renforcement des Capacités de la Société Civile dans la Prévention et la Gestion des Conflits en Afrique Centrale (PREGESCO) was identified and developed by representatives of civil society networks of Central Africa as a response to the following question: given the critical role and place of the civil society in the Central African Region as a partner of the public sector and private sector in the process of conflict prevention and/or conflict management, how to build its institutional and human capacity so that it can actively participate in the process of conflict prevention and conflict management at the national and regional levels?
The main goal of PREGESCO was to improve economic and social governance in the region through the active and effective participation of civil society in conflict prevention and management. The specific objectives were:
i) To build sustainable institutional capacity of networks of civil society organizations in eight Central African countries in conflict prevention and management;
ii) To build sustainable human capacity of these networks in conflict prevention and management; and
iii) To establish sustainable national and regional platforms of dialogue on conflict prevention and management in Central Africa.
