In October 2000, the “Conference des Ministres de l’Agriculture de l’Afrique de l’Ouest et du Centre” (CMA/AOC) and the Chambers of Agricluture of Benin, Burkina Faso, Cote d’Ivoire, Guinea, Mali and Togo made a joint request to the African Capacity Building Foundation (ACBF) regarding the funding of a pilot Capacity Building Project for the Interface between the States and the Chambers of Agriculture in West Africa known in French as “Projet de Renforcement de l’Interface entre les Etats et les Chambresd’Agriculture en l’Afrque de l’Ouest (PRIECA/AO)”. The PRIECA/AO project was launched in 2001to respond in part to the needs of the Chambers of Agriculture and that of the CMAO/AOC to build the analytical capacity of the Chambers of Agriculture and that of CMA/AOC; disseminate best practices and knowledge; strengthen systems of exchange of information between the private and public sectors on agricultural policies; and create conditions for the participation of farmers support institutions in decision-making at the national and regional levels.

PRIECA/AO goal was to help establish and consolidate a productive dialogue between the Governments, regional and international organisation and the Chambers of Agriculture interest.
