HESPI’s work in Somalia and South Sudan is to: (i) provide analytical work in both countries which has been instrumental in focusing the respective governments and their development partners on the importance of rebuilding financial integrity; (ii)Support the Transitional Federal Government of Somalia in drafting the first budget in two decades, and updating required fiscal legislation in 2009. As a result of HESPI’s comprehensive study and assessment of the financial sector in South Sudan, this provided an impetus of licensing of several private banks.
The specific objectives of the project are to: (1) Enhance capabilities of financial integrity institutions in South Sudan and Somalia (2) Improve policy formulation and management within the IGAD region and (3) Strengthen HESPI’s institutional and human capacity
