Faced with capacity challenges in negotiating trade agreements, the then CEMAC Secretariat requested support from ACBF. In December 2000, ACBF approved a grant of US$1million to enhance the capacity of CEMAC countries to participate effectively in trade negotiations and formulate appropriate trade policies. The grant was the first approved by ACBF for trade capacity building. The Projet de Renforcement des Capacites pour Ameliorer la Participation des Etats Membres de la Cemac au Systeme Commercial Multilateral (RE-CEMAC) Trade Capacity Building phase II Project was designed to consolidate existing capacity building gains as well as to respond to new challenges and emerging trade capacity building needs.
The overall objective of the project is to increase the participation of CEMAC member countries in international trade.
