The “Centre d‟Etudes de Politiques pour le Developpement( CEPOD )” was established to produce and disseminate economic policy analyses and to build indigenous capacity to undertake the analyses through training in Senegal. It was preceded by the “Unité de Politique Economique “(UPE) project. In April 1993, the Executive Board awarded a grant of US$1,912,200 towards the establishment of CEPOD.
The goal of CEPOD, phase I was to consolidate the achievements of UPE in building capacity ineconomic policy analysis and formulation, and make a significant contribution to theimplementation of the capacity-building activities identified in the strategic developmentdocuments such as the Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper (PRSP) and the “Programme National de Renforcement des Capacites et de Bonne Gouvernance‟.The goal of the second phase of CEPOD is to strengthen the Centre’s institutional platform and consolidate its achievements so that it can enhance the capacity of the Government of Senegal to more effectively guide and manage the implementation of the Accelerated Growth Strategy (AGS), poverty reduction strategy and development efforts in the country.
